New EU standards for personal data protection (GDPR)

On May 25, 2018 the new Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data in the EU (GDPR) entered into force. The regulation has a significant impact on organizations that process and (or) transmit data of individuals located in the EU.

The new regulation provides significant requirements for procedures and rules for data processing, up to the appointment by companies not registered in the EU, but processing the data of entities in the EU, a representative in the European Union for interaction with supervisory authorities. The regulation provides for administrative fines for violations in the field of PD protection in the amount of up to 4% of the annual turnover or EUR 20 million.
