The Ministry of Labour presented a draft professional standard for lawyers

06.04.2020

On 27 March, the Russian Labour Ministry published a draft professional standard "Lawyer" regulating legal activities in Russia. It is noted that the Union of Lawyers of Russia was involved in drafting the document.

Evgenia Zusman, You & Partners managing partner, provided a comment on the draft for Advokatskaya Gazeta. According to her, the draft professional standard underestimates the requirements for education and work experience. Evgenia also pointed out that the document contains vague wording in terms of legal duties specified for certain positions. In her opinion, in respect of junior lawyers and paralegals, the standard is noticeably skewed towards administrative duties, paperwork and other non-traditional legal duties (preparing notes and minutes of meetings, maintaining the general flow of documents, which are not exactly legal duties).

Further details on the comment are available in the article.
